What is Apple up to?

February 8th, 2010

If you listen to the internet you would be led to believe Apple can’t take Pre-orders on the iPad because they haven’t received FCC approval. I believe this is incorrect. The FCC regulation prohibits putting unapproved electronic devices in the hands of consumers prior to FCC approval. There is absolutely no reason Apple can’t take pre-orders. It makes absolutely no sense to have announced the product and then to not even take pre-orders. Some will point to the 1st iPhone, but remember there were no pre-orders, you had to buy directly from AT&T or an Apple store. So just what is Apple up to?

Jetbrains

June 1st, 2009

I just had my first dealings with Jetbrains and found them to be a very stand-up company. If the opportunity were to arise in the future I would not hesitate to do business with them again. Hat tip to George Dvorak.

Drobo

April 27th, 2009

I bought a new Drobo this week and am very pleased with my purchase. I have moved my entire iTunes library and all of my documents onto the Drobo. I have it connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station and it works very well this way. The only problem I had was itunes not being able to find the library after a reboot. Turns out it was becasuse the iMac had not connected to the Drobo yet. This was easily fixed by added the Drobo to Login items in System Preferences.

This is my first post from my iPhone. Just another reason I’m glad I switched to WordPress.

Best Rails Book Ever

November 18th, 2008

I am in the process of reading Foundation Rails 2 by Eldon Alameda which is the best book on Rails for beginners I have ever read and I’ve read quite a few. Mr. Alameda has a unique way of explaining things clearly and in enough detail that it makes sense. If you have ever wanted to dive into Rails and but weren’t sure where to start, get this book.

Goodbye Typo

November 7th, 2008

This blog has been running on Typo for years. But no more. I have given up on Typo. Every time I try to upgrade the software it breaks something and I have to spend a few days chasing down what broke. I have heard many good things about WordPress so I’m giving it a try.
